Hello
My name is Treasure. I am a 3rd generation hair stylist along with other hobbies and passions including modeling, traveling and influencing. As a mother, I take pride in building confidence in others and inspiring others to grow emotionally, spiritually, financially and physically. Balance is key and has been a very important part of my personal growth.
Born and raised in California, I grew up in salon with my mother who is a former salon owner and my grandfather who also owned a salon but eventually retired as NBC photographer. I started styling as an assistant in 1999 at the age of 13 and after working for many salons in Pasadena, Ca and Hollywood I eventually found myself traveling to Europe for a few years of fun as a entrepreneur, model and wife.
I founded AZ Summer Stylez, African American Braiding Co. and Boutique in 2015 after styling here in Arizona Salons for several years and I a proud to say I now reside here full time.
My Story
Arizona is a boiling pot isn't it?
Not only is it hot, but its full of life. So many people living together with different backgrounds and ethnicity's all melting together. When I moved back home to the states, honestly, I didn't want to style hair anymore. I had children of my own and just wanted something different. Besides... the styles had changed and there were so many new stylist here from so many different states that I felt like there wasn't a big need for me in the industry. I use to travel to clients in the past at their homes whenever I came to town back in 2004 up to 2008 teaching individuals how to care for their natural hair without chemical. Teaching parents how to manage their kids hair and sharing my favorite products. Many of my clients had left their hometown stylist and were facing major hair breakage from the heat and dry climate alone. It was perfect for me because I've always had fun educating women, children, men - well actually anyone. I love knowledge and I love science too.
I simply thought those days were over. My new niche was selling human hair. I had built many connects while living overseas and started providing an in-home service designing wigs and clip-ons for California clients. It was a hobby that turned into a thing called "Trendy Tracks". As a stay home mom I enjoyed the art. However, once hitting Arizona most of my clients were far more interested in growing their hair and some of my old clients were begging for braiding services.. and not just braiding services - they kind of needed a miracle. In fact when I visited the malls, parties, family gatherings everyone looked wired up. They all looked liked they'd been shocked. And not just to see me, but by electricity. So many new people were here from different areas like Michigan, Denver, Cincinatti, New York, the Bay Area, Clevland and of course LA and I was trying not to look but feel like they were all bald or wearing wigs.
I then grew a very deep respect for hair styling, natural hair care, beauty and health in general. I noticed that I had been taking my own gifts for granted. I had been taking many things for granted in general and I was wasting time that I could be using to help others with their hair issues. Although I was pregnant, I decided, not only was I going to start braiding in AZ again, but I was going to go back to cosmetology school that I once started and stopped a couple times in the past. Small little secret-- when you've been making money since you were "knee high to a duck" in the hair industry, its very very hard to sit at a beauty school listening to blah blah blah. But in fact I learned a lot, especially on the business side.
For Instance, I learned how to successfully build a reliable clientele. I needed this knowledge because although I was born into a built-in California clientele, it actually crippled me as a stylist. I learned how to book clients wisely, how to communicate with others on a global level and honestly I learned a lot more about working with other ethnicities hair, color, cut and even perm. All the stylist students were fresh out of high school in cosmetology school and I was hitting my 30s, so I was soaking it all up and losing money with a fake smile.
At the end of the day, I feel like I took the late sacrifice for my clients. The birth of AZ Summer Stylez was necessary. Arizona is a very special place and it takes critical measures to survive the climate here.
